FAQ Questions

1.     How do I become a SisterSong member?

You can become a member of SisterSong by: 1) Clicking the “Grow SisterSong” banner at the top of our website or 2) Call a staff member to receive a physical application at 404-756-2680.

2.     Is membership open only to women of color?

Membership is open to EVERYONE who supports reproductive justice and wants to be a part of this movement.

3.     What is Reproductive Justice?

Reproductive Justice is an intersectional analysis that looks at reproductive health through a social justice lens. The short definition for reproductive justice is the human right to have a child, not have a child, and parent the children we have in safe and healthy environments. The formal definition is when women and girls have the economic, social and political power and resources to make healthy decisions about our bodies, [labor], sexuality and reproduction for ourselves, our families and our communities in all areas of our lives.

4.     I need to hold a meeting in Atlanta and need to know can my organization use space at the Mother House? Does the Mother House lease conference room space?

5.       How can I sign up for Reproductive Justice Training?

Members can request RJ trainings in their cities, for their organizations or their regions.  Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to get more information and schedule a Reproductive Justice Training in your area.  Trainings may be free or at reduced fees for members.

6.       Can I start a SisterSong chapter?


No, SisterSong does not have “chapters” at this time. We are exploring options for working with women in regions around the country who do not want to form an independent women of color organization but who want to affiliate with SisterSong. One of the values that SisterSong prioritizes is bringing together all reproductive justice activists across boundaries of race, class, sexual identity, ability, immigration status, etc. So if you’re interested in forming a SisterSong coalition in your area that does this, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 7.     Is SisterSong a reproductive health clinic/facility?

No, SisterSong is an education and advocacy organization, and a network of women of color and ally organizations and individuals that are located throughout the country.  

8.     Does SisterSong provide direct services or grants?

No, SisterSong is an education and advocacy organization, and a network of women of color and ally organizations and individuals that are located throughout the country.  

9.     Does SisterSong hold annual meetings?

Yes, SisterSong holds annual membership meetings in different locations throughout the United States, and we also host National Conferences approximately every 3 years.

10.  Are annual meetings open to the public?

Yes.

11.  How do I join SisterSong’s leadership?

SisterSong’s leadership is our Management Circle or Board of Directors. New members are nominated by current members from individuals who have been working with SisterSong for a minimum of one year either through a Working Committees or other volunteer role.
