Black (In)Fertility Awareness Week is a dedicated week of events, conversations, and actions aimed at highlighting the experiences of Black individuals and families navigating infertility and family building. The Fertility Justice movement acknowledges that access to fertility care is a reproductive right. It aims to ensure equitable access to fertility preservation, education, and family-building resources, while also addressing social, cultural, and financial barriers that disproportionately impact Black communities. Rooted in the Reproductive Justice framework and the Fertility Justice movement, the week creates space to share stories, build community, and advocate for more equitable, inclusive fertility care. It centers the voices of Black people often left out of mainstream reproductive health discussions and works to normalize conversations around infertility and fertility support.

Why It Matters

Infertility is often stigmatized and misunderstood, especially in Black communities, where systemic racism, cultural silence, and financial barriers limit access to fertility care. Black (In)Fertility Awareness Week challenges these inequities by asserting that access to fertility care is a reproductive right. This initiative not only amplifies the realities and resilience of Black individuals navigating fertility journeys but also calls for real solutions, like expanded education, equitable healthcare access, and policy change. It is a vital step in dismantling the stigma and ensuring that Black families can build and grow with dignity, support, and justice.

What do we do?

  • Raise awareness about the disproportionate barriers faced by Black communities in accessing fertility care.

  • Challenge cultural stigmas and taboos surrounding infertility.

  • Advocate for policy change and increased access to equitable fertility care.

  • Provide resources and education to empower individuals and families.

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive community of those impacted by infertility.
