WHAT IS FERTILITY JUSTICE?
Fertility Justice is defined as the human right for all communities to create and define family through chosen cultural methods — without fear of criminalization, discrimination, barriers to access, or stigma.
This framework centers the needs of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged groups in their pursuit of family building.
Fertility justice is the basic human right to conceive, labor, give birth, raise families, and sustain life free from inequity, shame, and fear — on our own terms, with whomever we choose, and however we choose.

VISION. MISSION. GOALS.
Vision
Every person deserves quality, affordable, and non-discriminatory fertility care that upholds their right to bodily autonomy — including if, when, and how they build their families.
Mission
Using a Reproductive Justice and Human Rights framework, together we can address barriers that put fertility care out of reach — especially for Black, brown, Indigenous, disabled, low-income, queer, and trans/gender diverse individuals.
Goals
Guarantee equitable and non-discriminatory access to fertility care for all, and bring together advocates across the country to learn, share, and support each other in making this a reality in their states.
People worldwide are affected by infertility, per the World Health Organization.
Black women are half as likely to access fertility care compared to their white counterparts.
Average out-of-pocket cost of a single IVF cycle without insurance coverage.
BARRIERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Numerous barriers — including lack of insurance, high out-of-pocket costs, limited information, restrictive laws and policies, stigma, and provider bias — put fertility care out of reach for too many.
Of the 22 jurisdictions with state insurance mandates, only 8 are LGBTQ-inclusive. Only 21 states (and DC) have fertility insurance laws, and only 15 of those cover IVF. Nearly all apply only to private insurance — not Medicaid.
Fertility care and abortion care are intrinsically linked. Attacks on abortion go hand in hand with attacks on fertility care access. The focus of both is the same: taking away bodily autonomy and the right of people to determine whether and how to have children.
INTERSECTIONAL. CROSS-MOVEMENT. JUSTICE-CENTERED.
Destigmatization
Centering stories too often erased. Breaking silence, building solidarity, and creating space for Black communities to share their fertility journeys without shame.
Public Education
Ensuring communities have the information they need about fertility care options, rights, and resources — in language and spaces that are culturally grounded and accessible.
Legislative Advocacy
Advancing insurance mandates, parentage protections, and Right to IVF legislation that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and grounded in a human rights framework.
