WHAT IS BLACK (in) FERTILITY AWARENESS WEEK?
Black (In)Fertility Awareness Week is a dedicated week of events, conversations, and actions aimed at highlighting the experiences of Black individuals and families navigating infertility and family building. The Fertility Justice movement acknowledges that access to fertility care is a reproductive right.
It aims to ensure equitable access to fertility preservation, education, and family-building resources, while addressing social, cultural, and financial barriers that disproportionately impact Black communities. Rooted in the Reproductive Justice framework, the week creates space to share stories, build community, and advocate for more equitable, inclusive fertility care.
BARRIERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Infertility is often stigmatized and misunderstood, especially in Black communities, where systemic racism, cultural silence, and financial barriers limit access to fertility care.
Black (In)Fertility Awareness Week challenges these inequities by asserting that access to fertility care is a reproductive right. This initiative amplifies the realities and resilience of Black individuals navigating fertility journeys and calls for real solutions — expanded education, equitable healthcare access, and policy change.
It is a vital step in dismantling the stigma and ensuring that Black families can build and grow with dignity, support, and justice.

THE YEARS.
Black (in)Fertility Awareness Week marked another powerful chapter in the movement to center Black voices and experiences in the conversation around fertility, reproductive health, and family building. The week featured virtual and in-person events, storytelling campaigns, and educational resources that uplifted the lived realities of Black individuals navigating infertility. Through collaborative partnerships and advocacy calls-to-action, the week raised awareness about deep inequities in fertility care while celebrating the resilience and futures of Black families.
SisterSong's second annual Black in Fertility Awareness Week (July 28 – August 2) advanced a bold call to action, centering Black voices, lived experiences, and leadership in the fight for equitable access to fertility care across the African diaspora. Grounded in the Reproductive Justice framework, BIAW 2025 uplifted storytelling, mental health and healing, technological innovation, clinic transparency, and policy advocacy — moving beyond awareness toward urgent collective action.
